OHS 50/50 Lottery Frequently Asked Questions
HOW OLD DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO ORDER A TICKET?
All tickets will only be sold to people who are 18 years of age or older.
HOW MANY 50/50 LOTTERY TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE?
There is no limit to the number of raffle tickets available.
WHAT ARE THE TICKET PRICES FOR THE OHS 50/50 LOTTERY?
OHS 50/50 tickets are: individual (1) for $10, three (3) for $20, or one hundred (100) for $50.
WHAT ARE THE GUIDELINES REGARDING THE NUMBER OF NAMES ON OHS 50/50 LOTTERY TICKET AND PAYMENT TERMS?
All tickets, including the individual, the three pack or the one hundred pack, must contain the same name and information. Only one form of payment may be used per purchase. After purchase, patrons will be given a receipt with their 50/50 registered numbers from a Random Selection System. No specific numbers can be given as numbers are generated randomly.
CAN SOMEONE WHO LIVES OUTSIDE ONTARIO BUY A TICKET?
Yes. You do not need to live within the province of Ontario to enter, however you must be in the province of Ontario at the time of purchase.
WHO IS NOT ELIGIBLE TO ORDER A TICKET?
The following individuals and all their immediate family members residing in the same household are prohibited from ordering a ticket: all employees and Board Members of The Ottawa Humane Society; and members of licensed gaming suppliers providing services to this program.
IF I WIN EITHER EARLY BIRD DRAWS IS MY TICKET STILL ELIGIBLE FOR THE MAIN 50/50 DRAW?
Yes, winners of both (2) early bird draws and the Furbo Pet Camera will have their tickets re-entered for the Main 50/50 draw. You have four opportunities at winning a prize: two early bird draws, the Furbo Pet Camera draw, and the final (1) Main 50/50 draw.
I HAVEN’T RECEIVED MY OFFICIAL TICKET / IT CONTAINS A SPELLING/ADDRESS ERROR
Your official ticket will be sent to you via email at point of sale. If there appears to be any issues you may contact us through email at email@example.com.
WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF A CREDIT CARD IS DECLINED?
All tickets must be purchased online using a credit card. If there is an issue with your credit card, the point of purchase system will not allow your ticket to be purchased. Credit card is the only form of payment.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECEIVE MY TICKETS?
Generally, within five minutes of purchase you will receive your ticket. During times of high demand, it could take up to 30 minutes. If you don’t receive your ticket within an hour, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I HAVE DELETED THE EMAIL WITH MY LOTTERY TICKET, AM I STILL ELIGIBLE FOR THE DRAWS?
Yes. You do not need your ticket in hand to be included in the draws. For ticket-related inquiries, please email us at email@example.com.
I DON’T HAVE AN EMAIL ADDRESS; HOW DO I GET A COPY OF MY TICKET?
You must include an email address in order to purchase a ticket.
I’M NOT ABLE TO OPEN MY ELECTRONIC TICKETS. WHAT DO I DO?
If you are not able to open your email to retrieve your ticket, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
WHAT IS THE SECONDARY PRIZE DRAW?
There is a (1) secondary prize draw. The prize is a “Furbo Pet Camera” valued at $300. The secondary prize will be drawn on September 4th at 1pm at the Ottawa Humane Society. The deadline to purchase tickets is August 31 at 11:59 p.m.
WHAT ARE THE EARLY BIRD PRIZES?
There are two (2) early-bird prizes. Each prize is for $1,000. The first early bird will be July 17, 2020. The deadline to purchase tickets, in order to be included in the July 17 deadline is no later than 11:59p.m. on July 16. The second early bird will be August 7, 2020 and the deadline is no later than 11:59p.m. on August 6. The winners of these draws are put back in the main draw to be eligible for the Main 50/50 draw and the Furbo Pet Camera draw.
WHAT IS THE VALUE OF THE MAIN 50/50 DRAW?
The value of the Main 50/50 draw will be 50% of the total sales for the raffle. The raffle will be drawn September 4 at 1 p.m. The deadline to purchase tickets is August 31 at 11:59 p.m.
IS MY TICKET PURCHASE TAX DEDUCTIBLE?
Lottery or raffle tickets are not eligible for a charitable tax receipt as per Canada Revenue Agency rules and regulations.
IF I WIN, IS MY PRIZE SUBJECT TO TAXATION?
No. Prizes won are not taxable. Lottering winnings are considered a windfall and not taxable in Canada.
HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO CLAIM MY PRIZE?
The winning ticket holder has 6 months in which to claim their prize from the day of the draw their ticket was purchase for.
HOW ARE WINNERS NOTIFIED?
The winning number will be announced on the website, social media channels and in print on site. . Winners will also be notified directly via telephone and/or email.
WHO IS CBN?

HOW WILL PROCEEDS FROM THE OHS 50/50 BE USED?
Proceeds of the OHS 50/50 Lottery will be used to provide care for the animals that come into Ottawa Humane Society care, and to fund the Ottawa Humane Society’s programs.
DOES THE CANADIAN ANTI-SPAM LEGISLATION AFFECT YOUR LOTTERIES?
Charity lotteries are exempt from this legislation.
